Good Morning Monday ~Why I Travel~

~Just two weeks ago I was coming home from Costa Rica after travelling around for over a month. Now I’m home and back to work just as fast as I when I left. Back to the day job and the regular old routine. But while I was travelling I felt like time stood still. It felt like I was gone forever.

The worst thing about travelling… is the travelling part.

Line-ups to check your bags, then more line-ups to scan your other bags and then the terminal gate-wait. Not to mention, the line up to board the plane, the slow pitter patter of shuffling feet, the immigration cards to fill out and all the bags everywhere. Long hours on flights that can get horribly bumpy and cramped. Headaches and nausea can suddenly hit you. Sometimes your legs or arms fall asleep.

It’s the worst!

So why do I travel?

I travel for the stamp on my rugged, worn out passport at my destination.IMG_20160213_175810

I travel for that first glimpse of a place I’ve never seen before.

I travel for the story, the excitement, and of course, the knowledge.

I travel to feel the earth and sand beneath my feet. I mean; to really feel it.

I travel for the joy of travelling.

I travel for the most amazing experiences I’ll ever have. 🙂

These are the BEST parts about travelling!

Travelling is the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s helped me appreciate everything on such a deeper level. Travelling gives you something to look forward to and memories to remember forever. It’s extremely difficult to put into words how you feel when you have fear, anxiety, exhilaration and wonder all wrapped up in your belly together like a swirl of emotions all fighting to get out.

I always want to keep coming back to that feeling: Pure joy.

With each flight and bus ride I took on my journey, I would have my hands pressed up against the windows of the buses and planes with that silly little smirk on my face.
There’s a whole world out there and I just went and explored it. Well, a small part of it anyway. 🙂

Travelling changes you. It opens your mind to new things and new sensations. It brings out your inner child and taps into the fascination bursting within your deepest core muscles.  We are not meant to stay in one place on this earth. I believe we were meant to explore and learn about our surroundings. How else will we prosper if we know nothing of the greatness that surrounds us?

Do you feel the same? Do you have a burning passion for travelling around the world, like me?

I want to hear your travel stories!

I also want to pursue a career as a Travel Blogger. It’s been on my bucket list for far too long. So here is where I can start; with you.

The Travel Blog will have to start with some stories of course. There’s a lot of research to be done. And there will be an overhaul of all my current content already on this tiny little blog. I’ve looked into more and more travel blogs to get some ideas on how to make money while you travel as that is what I’ve always wanted to do.  The Freedom-Preneur movement is on an overwhelming up-rise because travel is becoming so much more popular among young people these days.

Over the next year, I will be creating an entirely new blog from a different platform. I’m really excited to start a new project. But for now, I will share some stories with you and I would really love your feedback on my newly discovered content as I try to rebuild my tiny blog after a long hiatus from writing.

So I hope you enjoy my travel stories 🙂 as I always love to share them.

Costa Rica was country #11 for me. How many countries have you been to?

~Doing What We Have To Do~

~Sometimes doing what we love or doing what we want isn’t in the cards. Sometimes doing what we have to do is what we must do… right now. I came to this realization after finishing school in April.

I was completely broke. I hadn’t had a full-time job in over a year and moving into a more expensive living situation started eating up my savings.  I desperately wanted to start my business and I gave it a good try for about a month, but I decided I had to put my dreams on hold to make money. So that’s what I did all summer: I made money.

I haven’t been writing on my blog and I’ve gone silent on my social media accounts over the last few months. I needed a full-time job and that’s exactly what I got. I gave up most of my summer to work every day to try to push myself ahead once again. In just 3 months, I worked my way into a front desk manager position at my office after the previous manager walked out. I was suddenly it.

So I owned it.

I looked at my situation and said to myself, “Just do it!” I buckled down and worked my entire summer away. I took responsibility and proved myself worthy of the workload.

Starting a business is a lot of work. More work than I was willing to put in with the amount of money I had; which was next to nothing. I did the research and discovered I wasn’t ready at all. I didn’t have the time or the money and I knew right away it wasn’t going to work out. Which in the grander scheme of things is just fine with me. I don’t want to rush into something that I’m not ready for. Don’t get me wrong; I love writing and I still have every intention of starting my travel website, but only when the time is right.

My new job took up all of my energy. I was mentally drained after long days of training new people, working in a very busy office and picking up the pieces of the previous employees who had left a big mess behind. I had absolutely no mental capacity to sit down and write what I wanted to write. I only took two weeks to go have some summer fun with my boyfriend and that was the only time I had off. We did a mini road trip through the Kootenays, hit up Shambhala Music Festival and went camping beside a gorgeous waterfall beside a beautiful lake. It was pretty awesome!

I chose to do what I had to do. Doing what we have to do is not always what we want to do, but I am happy with my decision. Life is full of choices and I chose to work full-time to better my money situation before starting something much bigger.

I’m still young. I still have so much time to do what I want 🙂 And so this minor setback is actually not a setback at all. It’s just a bit of a detour on my life long journey to get to where I want to be. I will still travel. I will still write. I will do what I want to do eventually when the time is right.

Right now I’m doing what I have to do and I’m ok with that. I like my job and the people who work in my office so working towards my dreams by putting them on hold for now is not such a bad thing.

It’s just what I have to do 🙂 Staying hopeful, keeping positive and still enjoying life. That’s what life is all about, right?!

The Road to Self Employment ~ Step #1: The Business Plan

~Every business starts out with an idea. Then that idea is turned into a business plan of action. There are many steps to follow when starting your own business and with a lot of hard work and determination the last step ends with success.

What’s your key to success?keyboard-621829_1280

I’ve tried a handful of different business ideas and none of them ever worked out for me. But it wasn’t because they weren’t great opportunities full of potential, it was that they were not the right fit for my future. I have tried many multi-level marketing companies that involved selling products such as dietary supplements, cleansing kits, health food alternatives, telecommunications and even coffee.

I also tried out self employment as a Personal Trainer for a few years and ran my business by going to people’s homes, personal gyms and group training boot camps. Each business had a great compensation plan and a bucket load of wonderful people involved, but they just did not fill my heart with passion. Although writing has been my passion for years, I have always held myself back.

I ask myself: “What if I’m not good enough?” or “What if people don’t like what I have to say?”

And those two questions have stopped me in my tracks many times. Now I am finally ready to work on the business plan that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. It’s travel blog time!

A business plan consists of many things: statistics, numbers, time frames, information and facts that secure the business idea.

You have to ask yourself: Is this a viable business that can make money?

Will my costs be more than I am willing to pay out?

Can I put in the hours that are required to deliver results?

Do I have the start up funds I need to get going?

mark-516277_1280Once these variables are sorted out then the business plan  can finally be put together. I think of it like a mind map. You must fill in the bubbles with the ideas and connect the dots to create a road map to success.

Well it’s time to get started.

There is a lot of work to be done and step by step I will collect my information and start working on my material.

Are you self-employed? Maybe you might have some advice or would like to connect and chat about self employment.  I would love to hear any success stories out there or even network with others just getting started on this same path. 🙂

If you would like to chime in, please leave a comment in the box below. I love connecting! ~T

Good Morning Monday~My Road. My Path. My Picnic.

Good Morning Monday!!

I’ve walked along the road to nowhere
Each step I take a heavy lift
For my memories and thoughts weigh me down from time to time
Through the openings I learn to sift

The flours that bake the breads are turned
Toss the ingredients to make the mix
Bake the life with the heat on high
Random words and rhymes give me my kicks

My road is a road no one else can go
The tranquility no one else will know
My recipe is a secret just for me
The dough will rise and my footsteps will be

This path brings health and food and wealth
Colors are vibrant and my garden grows
I have my basket full of goodies
A picnic awaits as my little seeds are sown

Patience follows me down the turns and curves
With a skip in my step my goodies bounce
Once at my destination I unfold my blanket
And relish in my journeys gifts and my footstep counts

May your road bring you to your own destination 😀 A picnic for one; bountiful and rewarding xox

Good Morning Friends xo

Good morning friends!

Life is funny sometimes isn’t it? Sometimes it’s awful, hard and terrifying. Sometimes it’s lovely and wonderful. Sometimes your world has to fall apart to gain a new appreciation for life. I wonder how many of us actually know how important we are?

How many lives have we touched? What would be the response if we suddenly vanished from this life?

I bet a lot of us will never know what kind of mark we have left on this earth. How many lives we have changed just by being our true selves? I believe we are loved more than we think.

When we smile at a stranger walking down the street or hold a door for someone walking behind us. It’s the simple act of showing a friend how much they mean to you with a long embrace after not seeing them for a week. Telling a long-lost family member that you are always thinking of them through hard times. That is what keeps us moving forward.

Love.

Each time I lose a close friend I wonder if they knew how much I loved them and appreciated their friendship. I suddenly feel the urgency to tell everyone close to me how much I love them before it’s too late. The feeling that I may be running out of time haunts me. It’s a feeling I welcome. Live everyday as if it were the last day on earth.

So my message is simple and sincere: tell your loved ones what they mean to you.  Make sure they know how much they mean to you. Share a memory or a feeling. A warm hug or a short phone call.

Tell them you love them. The only time it’s too late is when we are gone from this life. Whatever lies on the other side we won’t know until we get there so spread the message of love to those who have touched your life. I know too well the heartache that accompanies a life lost.

My only regret is that I didn’t get to express to my lost friends how they changed my life for the better. That just their very presence in my world made it lovelier and more wonderful. That I loved them more than they probably knew and that my heart will always have a special place for them.

Tell them you love them as much as you can.

Love xox

May your week be full of love and gratitude and the people who you care about you the most. For that is what makes life great: the people who love us and make us feel loved.

🙂

Tragedy: We Lost a Beautiful Friend

eye-42333_1280It was Sunday night and we had just eaten a wonderful Easter dinner up in Shawnigan Lake with some family. As we drove down the dirt road from the farm we realized we had missed a text message from our friend so we slowed down to read it. I was in complete disbelief at first. I thought maybe my boyfriend Anthony had read it wrong.

Our beautiful friend Christine had died suddenly. I said, “No, you must be reading that wrong babe.” So we pulled over at the end of the dirt road.

Sure enough that’s what the text read so Anthony dialed our friend back. To our horror, it was true.

Our bright bubbly friend who was 7 months pregnant with her first child had a brain aneurysm and was gone. She was only 28 years old. The week has been quite blurry since the news hit, after the denial faded away and it actually started to feel real. We’ll never see her lovely face again. We’ll never dance with her and bust a move when the beat drops. We’ll never hear that cute little laugh. Her baby will never see this world. We lost a beautiful friend.

Another Phase of Life Completed~Now for the next step

vision-board-520757_1280~I have finally completed my 12 week business program at the University of Victoria. It’s been an incredible journey and extremely intense to say the least. With a final exam every week and homework every night, my blog posts have yet again been few and far between.

But now another phase of life is completed. Now for the next step. To make my world what I want it to be.

I’m feeling a bit nervous to go back out into the real world and everyone keeps asking me what I am going to do now that I have a certificate in business.

In all honesty, I have no idea.

I do however know exactly what I want to do. I want to write and travel the world and somehow make those two things go together. Whatever the next step is, I’m actually not quite sure where it’s going to take me. I have always ended up answering phones, greeting people and filing at a reception desk and I would like to try to do something completely different. I’ve always defaulted to working in a dental office because that’s really the only field I’m experienced in. But now I want to do something different, exciting and new! 🙂

And since nothing is written in stone, I nothing-is-written-in-stone-527756_1280need to build up the confidence to try something I’ve never tried before. I can now say I have extra abilities and skills I didn’t have before.

I’m done looking for postings on Craigslist and I’m ready to start networking through people who are doing what I want to be doing. I would love to get into a publication where I can learn the ins and outs of the writing industry. I want to know what it’s like to work directly with an Editor.

So I’ve revamped my resumé and I’m working on making my portfolio look perfect. It’s never to late to change something and I guess that’s exactly what I did. I suppose I just need to dive right into the job search as soon as possible and put myself out there.

I refuse to give up.
I refuse to do something I don’t love thoroughly.

I vow to myself I will not stop searching until I find the perfect job. I may not be an extraordinary writer but I am willing to follow my dream as far as I can.

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
Thomas A. Edison

Whoo Graduation!! 😀 Here we go!
