The Road to Self Employment ~ Step #1: The Business Plan

~Every business starts out with an idea. Then that idea is turned into a business plan of action. There are many steps to follow when starting your own business and with a lot of hard work and determination the last step ends with success.

What’s your key to success?keyboard-621829_1280

I’ve tried a handful of different business ideas and none of them ever worked out for me. But it wasn’t because they weren’t great opportunities full of potential, it was that they were not the right fit for my future. I have tried many multi-level marketing companies that involved selling products such as dietary supplements, cleansing kits, health food alternatives, telecommunications and even coffee.

I also tried out self employment as a Personal Trainer for a few years and ran my business by going to people’s homes, personal gyms and group training boot camps. Each business had a great compensation plan and a bucket load of wonderful people involved, but they just did not fill my heart with passion. Although writing has been my passion for years, I have always held myself back.

I ask myself: “What if I’m not good enough?” or “What if people don’t like what I have to say?”

And those two questions have stopped me in my tracks many times. Now I am finally ready to work on the business plan that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. It’s travel blog time!

A business plan consists of many things: statistics, numbers, time frames, information and facts that secure the business idea.

You have to ask yourself: Is this a viable business that can make money?

Will my costs be more than I am willing to pay out?

Can I put in the hours that are required to deliver results?

Do I have the start up funds I need to get going?

mark-516277_1280Once these variables are sorted out then the business plan  can finally be put together. I think of it like a mind map. You must fill in the bubbles with the ideas and connect the dots to create a road map to success.

Well it’s time to get started.

There is a lot of work to be done and step by step I will collect my information and start working on my material.

Are you self-employed? Maybe you might have some advice or would like to connect and chat about self employment.  I would love to hear any success stories out there or even network with others just getting started on this same path. 🙂

If you would like to chime in, please leave a comment in the box below. I love connecting! ~T

Seize the Day!

How many times a day are we faced with opportunity? Will you seize the day today?

Some look at opportunity for what it is: opportunity. Some see circumstances as road blocks or failures. But it really doesn’t matter what kind of person you are as long as you keep on moving forward.

I will full heartedly admit that I’ve buried my head in my pillow many times when life has beat me down. I have had that feeling that everything has been lost. I have missed the curve ball many times. Just yesterday I was having a great day and then I lost my bus pass somehow just as the bus pulled up… and it’s only the beginning of the month! UGH. Oh well life goes on right!?

Although life can kick you right where it hurts, there’s always a way to turn things around. I haven’t had a full-time job in years and I haven’t had any money to start my business I’ve always wanted to start.

What? That sounds like an excuse T!! Well guess what? It is an excuse.

So let’s find a way to get through the hard times. 🙂 Let’s find a way to get back up when we have been beaten down. Let us rejoice for being alive and having many opportunities knock on our door.

SEIZE THE DAY!

I have a roof over my head and clothes on my back. I am so sick of being my own worst enemy, letting my self-doubt and excuse rule me. Failures are opportunities.

Next week I am starting a new chapter: I am finally going to start taking the steps I need to take to create my first money-making travel website. I have always wanted to do this so why am I sitting here looking for a full-time job when I could be putting all of my energy into something I actually want to do?

On that note, I will leave you with some uplifting and inspiring quotes from some awesome people who graced this planet with their presence and wisdom. And whatever it is that you are doing… GO GET EM TIGER!!!! 😀 And I will do the same.

“The mind is everything. What you think you become.”Buddha

“Defer no time, delays have dangerous ends.”William Shakespeare

“Attitude is a little thing that makes all the difference.” Winston Churchill

“Experience is the best teacher, but a fool will learn from no other.”Benjamin Franklin

~Under the blankets we cannot escape

~The pain that grips us. It’s our unfortunate fate

~For one day we will all leave this earth

~One by one our souls rebirthed

~Into a place only the departed know

~I just want to know where all of us go

~But for that to happen I would have to end

~A death approaching I cannot pretend

~There’s no forever although we might wish

~Instead we’re forced to live out the anguish

~As we watch our friends and family pass

~A mirror broken. Shards of glass

~They cut so deep that the wound never quite heals

~The sorrow. The sadness. It is painfully real

~When your world turns upside down for a time

~Just remember their spirit will always shine

~Through us, our memories of a love so true

~I’m sure our loved ones will watch over us too

~We cannot just disappear. I won’t believe that

~No, Everything does not just go black

~There must be a place we can rejoin them some day

~A place where our souls can finally stay

~A place of peace and wonder and joy and love

~Call it heaven if you will. Call it the playground above

~For it doesn’t matter what each of us believe

~As long as we keep wearing our loved ones hearts on our sleeve

How Do You Overcome Self Doubt?

~There’s always that little voice inside. The voice that whispers, “You can’t” or “You won’t”. It’s like the little devil on your left shoulder telling you to do the opposite thing the little angel on your right shoulder is telling you to do.

angel-489524_1280

So how do you snap out of it and release that negative voice? How do you overcome self-doubt?

Maybe it’s from a parent or a loved one telling you to never to put all of your eggs into one basket. I know from my personal experience my dad was always doubtful of my ventures and questioned what I was doing with my life. So now when I want to try new and exciting things, I hear him say: “Are you sure?”

And well… yes I am sure.

Even though my mother and my incredibly supportive friends tell me how proud they are and that they support me in whatever I do, sometimes that little voice says, “They doubt you.”

Well I have learned over the years that it’s my own self doubt telling me to be cautious or leading me to repeat the same habits I have coiled myself into when looking for my true path. So I have finally come up with a solution:

You must kill the little voice.abstract-315911_1280

First, you must find that little voice when its at it’s loudest. When it’s yelling at you so clearly that you have to cover your ears and bury your head in a pillow.

Then you must sneak your metaphorical knife from under that pillow where you had it hiding the day before when you planned the kill.

Then finally when that voice presents itself in its loudest truest form you slash and slash until you cannot hear that stupid negative, little, squeaky, annoying voice. Don’t stop until it is completely silent.

Then bury it.

Bury that self-doubt so far underground that no one will ever find it again. Finally dispose of the metaphorical knife so no one knows you have killed your self-doubt. All anyone will ever know is that you have finally overcome your restraints. You no longer doubt yourself and you walk around with a newly found confidence inside you that shines brighter than ever before.

You have nothing holding you back.

You can finally look into the mirror and repeat these 3 things:

I can do anything I put my mind to!

I have accomplished everything I have set out to do!

I deserve everything I’ve ever wanted!

And that my friends is how you overcome self-doubt.

KILL IT!!! And bury it so no one ever finds again.

Muahahahahahahaha!!! 😛

Thursday Thoughts: How to be Happy in the Workplace :)

~Today I would like to share with you my oral presentation from the Business Writing course I just finished 🙂 I like to call it: Whistle While You Work

dancing-dave-minion-510835_1280How to be happy in the workplace.

Why am I qualified to give this presentation? Well, I am extremely happy ALL the time. I get very excited in my everyday life whether I’m just meeting with some friends or coming into class in the morning. I like to be happy. I’ve also left a lot of jobs because I wasn’t happy with them.

You know that feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and dread going to work? That’s usually the point when I start planning my escape route from that job. A change. If I don’t love it, I simply leave.

Now, how many of you see a grumpy or unhappy person everyday? I know I do. And just as a note here: No joke, sometimes your happiness literally pisses people off… excuse my language 😛 (yup I actually swore in my presentation). I actually had a former co-worker approach me one time when I was a Personal Trainer and say, “Tanya, you are WAY too happy all the time.”

What? How is this a bad thing? But, we see these grumpy people every day:

Bus drivers who don’t say anything or even look at you when you greet them, coffee baristas who glare when you order a difficult drink… or maybe even a boss who thinks the entire world revolves around them for some reason.  Yes, I have worked for people like that before and it is not fun.

So before I talk about my little secret to happiness, let’s look at Grumpiness and Unhappiness:

  • No one likes a Grumpy Gusthumb-440352_1280
  • When someone is grumpy it sucks!
  • Being unhappy is exhausting
  • When you are unhappy you are less attractive

Do you normally look at a grumpy person and think, “Oh yes, I want to be around you!“- No… well unless that’s what you’re into… (weird face)

Which brings me to my next point: So many people hate their jobs! And they are perfectly fine with that. OK so let’s ask ourselves:

  • How does it make us feel to encounter someone in a bad mood?- Lame
  • Can you tell when someone dislikes their job?- More than likely
  • What is it that drives us to stay in unhappy situations?- Money $$ is a big one

There is a huge difference between “Making a Living” and “Living” (this is where I had the entire class close their eyes to see what image came into their heads when stating each of these)

It’s no surprise a lot of people get these two things mixed up.

Some people actually think that making a living IS living. Well guess what?! It’s not.

Some people think the whole purpose of life is to just work until they are retired and buy things and stuff and raise a family. I mean yes these are all great things, but there is so much more to life than that.

There are so many ways to find Happiness 🙂

  1. First we must ask ourselves, “Why am I unhappy?”
  2. Then when we find the answer ei: a person, place or thing etc. we just simply get rid of it!
  3. You can also turn your frown upside downemotions-371238_1280
  4. Self affirmations LOVE YO SELF!!!
  5. Choose to be happier and less grumpy
  6. Learn to love your process

and if you’re still not happy at work, LEAVE!!!

You really don’t have to stay at the same job for your whole life. Especially if it makes you unhappy. Why would you want to do that? Aren’t we all deserving of something we enjoy doing?

So, do you want to know my secret to happiness??

LIVE!!youth-570881_1280

The meaning of life is to LIVE! Do what you love and LOVE what you do. If you don’t love what you are doing what’s the point? Life is way to short to be unhappy 😀 SMILE!!!!

So, in conclusion:

  • Grumpy people suck
  • Happiness is a choice we all have
  • AND we deserve to be in a happy place

All of us!! xo 🙂

So go out there into the big old world and find a job YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!!

That’s what happiness is. It’s LOVE ❤ xoxoxoxoxox Do what you love and love what you do!

Thank you 🙂

(Cue happy slide) 😉

Good Morning Ground Hogs Day AND Happy Birthday to my Mommy!! xo

550849_10151730032630444_79610808_n~I’ll never forget how good she has been to me 🙂 Happy Birthday to my Mommy xox

It was a few years back and I was upset about something someone had said to me. I was feeling that familiar feeling. I needed my Mommy. So I called… the tears were escaping their way out and I cried to her as if I were a child again. I remember her voice being so calm and soothing. She told me she was proud of me as she always does and told me to live my life the way I want. I am forever grateful for her wisdom.

Two weeks later I received a letter in the mail. It was thick with papers and other documents. It was a package from my Momma. I opened the envelope to see what was inside and as I did the tears instantly poured from my eyes. Out fell pictures of me and my little brother as kids, papers I had written in elementary school and old report cards with my straight A’s. And with these memories was a simple hand written note that read:

Hi Honey,

Just a few things to remind you who you are. Don’t let anyone say or do anything to change that. I love you just the way you are with all my heart. Be happy for you, not anyone else. LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU.

300292_10150880806705444_827832647_n

Your Mommy xox

And with a smiling sunshine to end the sweet note my heart was filled with more love than I could ever imagine.

To the only person in my life who makes sure I know how proud she is… for the woman who made me who I am today… here’s to my Mommy 😀 I love you more than anything in this world!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! 🙂

Ok yes I have shared this note before, but it still brings so many tears of joy I think it’s worth sharing again 😉 I guess I just really LOVE my Mommy!

~Good Morning Monday~ Breathe

photo-1418226970361-9f1f7227d638

Good Morning! Let us all close our eyes and breathe…

~Our minds expand out to take in the extra knowledge
We learn

Divine consciousness and the desire to breathe in more and more
Fill the lungs with life and energy
Free the mind

Inhale and exhale slow and steady
Take in the day
Breathe

Close the eyes and look to a happy place
Peace within

We have everything and anything we want within the walls of flesh

We are all more than meets the eye

We will conquer our fears~

The Simple Act of a Smile :)

~Simple acts of kindness can really go a long way. That is why todays post will be short and sweet. I’d like to share the simple act of a smile 🙂

fun-20008_1280Smile!! 🙂

The simple act of a smile can brighten someone’s day. Every time a person smiles at me, I instantly feel happy. I may be having a tough day or struggling with those afternoon “lulls” that most people experience just before the work day ends, but if someone smiles at me it’s an automatic mood booster.

I was reminded of this at the beginning of the week when I started my new class at the University. I needed to find a new bus route to UVic because I moved to a different part of town. I was happily surprised to find out that my new bus driver had mastered the simple act of smiling at each person boarding the bus. I noticed that she would even go above and beyond the smile by welcoming every person on the bus with a lovely greeting and then say goodbye to them, wishing each of those people a great day. This made me so happy; To see someone making such a wonderful effort to brighten everyone’s day. 🙂

So here is my smile for you 😀 I hope you have a fabulous weekend and may your smiles shine throughout the blogosphere.
